HUNTINGTON ÈËÑýÉ«ÇéƬ” A woman was arraigned Wednesday in connection with the death of her child.
Candace Hope Ferrell, 38, of Huntington, was arrested and arraigned in Cabell County Magistrate Court on Wednesday, according to a criminal complaint. She is currently being held in Western Regional Jail on a $20,000 cash-only bail.
Ferrell will appear in Magistrate Court again at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, according to the Cabell County Magistrate ClerkÈËÑýÉ«ÇéƬ™s office.
According to the complaint, Huntington ÈËÑýÉ«ÇéƬ officers responded to a residence in the 1100 block of 10th Avenue for a report of an unresponsive 10-month-old girl at about 10:30 p.m. Aug. 13.
The baby was transported to Cabell Huntington Hospital where she was later pronounced deceased.
According to the complaint, it was determined by police the child was last seen alive in the care and custody of her mother, Ferrell.
A search warrant was executed at the residence on 10th Avenue, where investigators found approximately 37 blue pills stamped with ÈËÑýÉ«ÇéƬœM30ÈËÑýÉ«ÇéƬ inside the portable playpen where the child was found, according to the complaint.
According to the complaint, when an autopsy was performed on the child, the cause of death was determined to be from fentanyl intoxication.
Ferrell is charged with felony child neglect resulting in death, according to the complaint.
According to an indictment provided by the Logan County ClerkÈËÑýÉ«ÇéƬ™s office, Ferrell was also charged in 2022 in connection with the death of Amber Nicole White in 2021.
Ferrell was charged with drug delivery resulting in death, failure to render aid resulting in death, and possession of a controlled substance at a jail, prison or correctional facility, according to the indictment.
Ferrell was charged with delivering fentanyl to White while in custody at the Southwestern Regional Jail, according to the indictment. In the indictment, it said Ferrell failed to request assistance for over an hour after observing White suffering from an overdose.
According to David Wandling, the Logan County prosecuting attorney, Ferrell originally posted bond, but a warrant was sent out for her arrest following the indictment in 2022. Wandling said the warrant was served Wednesday.
